Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for inspection or replacement.
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Lug wrench
    • Pry bar
    • Torque wrench
    • Ball joint separator (if replacement is necessary)
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels slightly before raising the vehicle.
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands to prevent it from falling.
3. Remove Wheel
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel to access the suspension components.
4. Inspect Ball Joints
  • Visually check the ball joints for any external damage, such as cracks in the rubber boot or signs of grease leakage.
  • Perform a push-pull test on the lower and upper ball joints by pushing and pulling on the wheel at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions.
5. Replace Ball Joints (if necessary)
  • If the ball joint is determined to be faulty, remove the ball joint using a ball joint separator.
  • Install the new ball joint and secure it according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Torque the ball joint nuts to the recommended specifications (refer to the service manual for exact torque values).
6. Reassemble Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
