Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Safety goggles
    • Gloves
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely supported before working underneath.
2. Remove the Wheel
  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel where the shock absorber needs to be inspected or replaced.
  2. Use the jack to lift the vehicle and securely place it on jack stands.
  3. Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Remove the Shock Absorber
  1. Locate the upper and lower mounts of the shock absorber.
  2. Use the socket set to remove the bolts securing the shock absorber to the lower control arm and the upper mount.
  3. Carefully pull the shock absorber out of its mounting position.
4. Inspect and Replace
  1. Compare the old shock absorber with the new one to ensure compatibility.
  2. Install the new shock absorber by reversing the removal process.
    • Slide the new shock into the mounting position.
    • Secure the lower mount first, then the upper mount.
  3. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (check owner’s manual for specific torque values).
5. Reinstall the Wheel
  1. Place the wheel back onto the hub.
  2. Hand-tighten the lug nuts, then lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  3. Once on the ground, use the torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
