Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Floor jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, impact wrench (optional).
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a floor jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which struts you are replacing.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the strut assembly.
4. Remove the Strut Assembly
  1. Disconnect any Sensors: If your Model 3 has any suspension sensors, disconnect them carefully.
  2. Unbolt the lower strut mount: Locate and remove the bolts securing the lower part of the strut to the control arm.
  3. Unbolt the upper strut mount: Open the hood and locate the upper strut mount. Remove the nuts securing the strut to the mount using a socket wrench.
  4. Remove the strut assembly: Carefully pull the strut assembly out from the wheel well.
5. Replace Strut Components
  • Strut Spring Compressor: Use a strut spring compressor to safely compress the spring on the old strut assembly.
  • Remove the old strut: Once compressed, remove the top nut to detach the strut from the spring and any other components like the rubber bump stop or bearings.
  • Install new strut: Attach the new strut to the spring and reverse the steps to install it back into the vehicle.
6. Reassemble
  • Reinstall the strut assembly in the reverse order of removal.
  • Ensure all bolts are tightened to the manufacturer’s specifications (consult a repair manual for torque specifications).
7. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground using the floor jack, then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
