Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Lug wrench
    • Torque wrench
    • Wheel chocks
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and engage the parking brake before lifting.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  • Jack up the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect Wheel Bearing
  • Visual Check: Look for any visible damage to the wheel bearing assembly.
  • Check for Play: With the wheel removed, grasp the hub at 12 and 6 o'clock and push/pull to check for excessive play.
  • Spin the Hub: Rotate the hub by hand and listen for grinding or roughness.
4. Replace Wheel Bearing (if necessary)
  • Remove Brake Assembly: If the wheel bearing is faulty, remove the brake caliper and rotor.
  • Remove Wheel Hub: Detach the wheel hub from the steering knuckle by removing the bolts securing it.
  • Install New Bearing: Press in the new wheel bearing using a bearing press or appropriate tool, ensuring it is seated properly.
  • Reassemble Components: Reattach the hub to the steering knuckle, install the brake rotor and caliper, and ensure all fasteners are torqued to specifications.
5. Reinstall Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
