Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Multimeter, 10mm socket wrench, jumper cables (if jump-starting).
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked in a safe location and is turned off.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the 12V battery to prevent any electrical shorts.
2. Inspect and Test the 12V Battery
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use the multimeter to check the voltage of the 12V battery. A healthy battery should read approximately 12.6 volts or higher.
    2. If the voltage is below 12.4 volts, consider replacing the battery.
    3. Clean the battery terminals with a wire brush if corrosion is present.
    4. Reconnect the terminals securely and ensure they are tight.
3. Jump-Start the Vehicle (if necessary)
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Connect the positive (red) jumper cable to the positive terminal of the 12V battery.
    2. Connect the other end of the positive jumper cable to the positive terminal of the donor vehicle's battery.
    3. Connect the negative (black) jumper cable to the negative terminal of the donor vehicle's battery.
    4. Connect the other end of the negative cable to a grounded metal point on the Tesla.
    5. Start the donor vehicle and allow it to charge the Tesla's battery for a few minutes before attempting to start the Tesla.
4. Replace the 12V Battery (if needed)
  • Sub-steps:
    1. If the battery is confirmed defective, remove the negative terminal first, followed by the positive terminal.
    2. Remove the battery hold-down bracket using a 10mm socket wrench.
    3. Carefully lift the old battery out and replace it with a new compatible 12V battery (usually an AGM type).
    4. Reinstall the hold-down bracket and reconnect the positive terminal first, followed by the negative terminal.
