Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set (10mm socket recommended)
    • Torque wrench
    • Multimeter
    • Safety glasses
  • Disconnect the vehicle from any charging source.
  • Ensure the vehicle is in park and powered down.
2. Access the 12V Battery
  • Open the front trunk (frunk) of the Tesla Model S.
  • Remove the plastic cover that protects the 12V battery by unscrewing the retaining bolts or clips using the socket set.
  • Carefully lift the cover to expose the battery.
3. Disconnect the Old Battery
  • Use the 10mm socket to loosen and remove the negative (black) terminal first to prevent a short circuit.
  • Next, remove the positive (red) terminal.
  • If equipped, remove any retaining brackets that hold the battery in place.
4. Remove the Old Battery
  • Carefully lift the 12V battery out of its compartment. Be cautious as it can be heavy.
5. Install the New Battery
  • Place the new 12V battery in the compartment, ensuring it is oriented the same way as the old battery.
  • Secure the battery with any retaining brackets if applicable.
6. Connect the New Battery
  • Reconnect the positive (red) terminal first and tighten it with the torque wrench to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 10-12 Nm).
  • Connect the negative (black) terminal and tighten it securely.
7. Replace the Plastic Cover
  • Reinstall the protective plastic cover over the battery and secure it with the retaining bolts or clips.
