Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the vehicle’s 12V battery to prevent electrical issues.
  • Allow the car to cool if it has been running.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a hydraulic lift or jack to elevate the front of the vehicle securely.
  • Support with jack stands to ensure safety.
3. Remove the Front Wheels
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheels for better access to the steering components.
4. Disconnect the Steering Components
  • Remove the steering column cover if necessary.
  • Disconnect any electrical connectors related to the steering rack.
  • Detach the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles using a ball joint separator or appropriate tool.
  • Unbolt the steering rack from its mounting points.
5. Install the New Steering Rack
  • Position the new steering rack and secure it to the mounting points using the original bolts, applying a torque of 30-40 Nm (22-30 lb-ft).
  • Reconnect the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles and tighten to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reattach the electrical connectors to the steering rack.
6. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the front wheels and tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to a torque of 100 Nm (74 lb-ft).
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
7. Reconnect the Battery
  • Reconnect the 12V battery and ensure all connections are secure.
8. Calibration
  • Perform a steering angle sensor calibration using Tesla's service tools to ensure proper functionality.
