Solution
1. Preparation
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical short circuits.
  • Gather tools and parts needed.
2. Inspect and Replace Spark Plug
  • Remove the engine cover if necessary.
  • Locate the spark plug for cylinder 3 (typically third from the front).
  • Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to remove the spark plug.
  • Inspect the spark plug for signs of wear (carbon buildup, cracks).
  • Replace with a new spark plug (OEM recommended).
    • Torque the new spark plug to 13 lb-ft (18 Nm).
3. Check and Replace Ignition Coil
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil for cylinder 3.
  • Remove the mounting bolt using a socket set.
  • Pull the ignition coil out of the cylinder head.
  • Install a new ignition coil.
    • Torque the mounting bolt to 80 in-lbs (9 Nm).
  • Reconnect the electrical connector.
4. Inspect and Clean Fuel Injector
  • Locate the fuel injector for cylinder 3 (near the intake manifold).
  • Disconnect the electrical connector and fuel line (use safety glasses).
  • Remove the mounting screws and pull the injector out.
  • Clean the injector using an appropriate fuel injector cleaner or replace it with a new one.
  • Reinstall the injector, ensuring it is seated properly and reconnect the fuel line.
5. Verify Compression
  • Remove the spark plug from cylinder 3.
  • Insert a compression gauge into the spark plug hole.
  • Crank the engine to get a reading.
  • Compare the reading to the manufacturer specifications (usually around 150 psi).
  • If compression is low, further engine diagnostics may be needed.
