Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, C-clamp or brake caliper tool, brake cleaner, and a torque wrench.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels slightly without removing them.
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the front wheels.
3. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Locate the brake caliper mounting bolts on the back of the caliper.
  • Use the appropriate socket to remove the caliper bolts.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor and support it using a bungee cord or hang it from the suspension (do not let it dangle by the brake line).
4. Replace the Brake Pads
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Using a C-clamp or brake caliper tool, compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing to create space for the new pads.
  • Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket, ensuring they are oriented correctly.
5. Reinstall the Brake Caliper
  • Position the caliper over the new brake pads and the rotor.
  • Reinstall the caliper mounting bolts and tighten them to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 79 ft-lbs).
6. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 76 ft-lbs).
7. Final Checks
  • Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the brake pads seat properly against the rotor.
  • Check brake fluid levels and top off if necessary.
