Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and safety equipment: gloves, safety glasses, and a funnel.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level; if low, add the appropriate type of power steering fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
  • Replace the cap securely after refilling.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Remove Drive Belt:
    • Locate the belt tensioner and use a wrench to relieve tension.
    • Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump pulley.
  • Remove Power Steering Pump:
    • Disconnect fluid lines from the pump using a wrench; be prepared for fluid spillage.
    • Unbolt the power steering pump from its mount using a socket set.
    • Carefully remove the pump from the engine bay.
  • Install New Power Steering Pump:
    • Position the new pump in place and secure it with bolts, tightening to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
    • Reconnect the fluid lines, ensuring they are tight to prevent leaks.
4. Reinstall Drive Belt
  • Place the drive belt back onto the power steering pump pulley.
  • Use the wrench to reposition the tensioner and ensure proper tension on the belt.
5. Bleed Power Steering System
  • Fill the power steering reservoir to the proper level if not already done.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to remove air from the system.
  • Check fluid level again and top off if necessary.
