Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Use wheel chocks to prevent movement.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Tools Required: Floor jack, jack stands.
  • Place the floor jack under the vehicle's jack point.
  • Raise the vehicle and secure it with jack stands at appropriate points.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Tools Required: Lug wrench.
  • Use the lug wrench to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the shock absorber.
4. Remove the Old Shock Absorber
  • Tools Required: Socket set, ratchet, torque wrench.
  • Locate the upper and lower mounting bolts of the shock absorber.
  • Use the socket set to remove the lower mounting bolt first, followed by the upper mounting bolt.
  • Gently pull the shock absorber out of its mounting position.
5. Install the New Shock Absorber
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench.
  • Place the new shock absorber into the mounting position.
  • Secure the upper mounting bolt first, then the lower mounting bolt.
  • Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (consult repair manual for specific torque values).
6. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub.
  • Hand-tighten the lug nuts initially, then use the lug wrench to tighten them in a crisscross pattern.
7. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle using the floor jack.
8. Final Checks
  • Recheck the tightness of the lug nuts after the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Dispose of the old shock absorber properly.
