Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Lug wrench
    • Torque wrench
    • Brake cleaner
    • Brake pad spreader tool
    • Safety goggles and gloves
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely supported before working under it.
    • Disconnect the battery if working on electronic brake components.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Jack up the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Inspection:
    • Check the thickness of the brake pads; they should be at least 3mm thick.
    • If worn, proceed to replace them.
  • Replacement:
    • Remove the caliper by loosening the caliper bolts.
    • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and support it without stretching the brake line.
    • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
    • Apply brake cleaner to the caliper and rotor to remove dust.
    • Install new brake pads in the caliper bracket, ensuring they are properly seated.
4. Inspect and Resurface/Replace Rotors
  • Inspection:
    • Examine the rotors for grooves, cracks, or warping.
  • Resurfacing/Replacement:
    • If the rotor is damaged beyond resurfacing, remove it by unscrewing the retaining screws (if equipped) and pulling it off the hub.
    • Install new or resurfaced rotors, ensuring they are clean and free of grease.
    • Reinstall the caliper over the new rotor and tighten the caliper bolts to manufacturer specifications.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts by hand.
  • Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Press the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads against the rotors.
  • Test drive the vehicle at low speeds to ensure the noise has been resolved and brakes are functioning properly.
