Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, ball joint separator, grease gun, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Safely lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels using a lug wrench.
2. Remove the Old Ball Joints
  1. Detach the Lower Control Arm:
    • Remove the bolts securing the lower control arm to the frame using a socket set.
    • Use a ball joint separator to detach the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
  2. Remove the Ball Joint:
    • If the ball joint is pressed in, use a ball joint press to remove it from the control arm.
    • If it is bolted in, remove the retaining bolts and take the ball joint out.
3. Install New Ball Joints
  1. Press in New Ball Joint:
    • If using a press-in ball joint, position the new ball joint in the control arm and use the ball joint press to secure it in place.
    • If it is a bolt-in type, align the new ball joint with the holes and insert the retaining bolts, tightening them to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  2. Reconnect the Lower Control Arm:
    • Reattach the lower control arm to the frame, ensuring all bolts are torqued to the specified values.
4. Reassemble Components
  1. Reattach Steering Knuckle:
    • Use the ball joint separator to reconnect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
    • Secure with the nut and torque to specifications.
  2. Reinstall Wheels:
    • Place the wheels back onto the hub and tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to ensure even pressure.
5. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground using the jack.
