my Toyota Camry XV70 (2018-2024) has power steering pump noise

Solution

1. Preparation

• Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
• Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
• Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues.

2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid

• Tools Required: Funnel, clean rag.
• Inspect the power steering fluid reservoir cap and remove it.
• Using a funnel, check the fluid level. If low, add the manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid until it reaches the correct level.
• Replace the cap securely.

3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)

• Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, power steering pump puller, fluid catch basin.
• Remove the drive belt by loosening the tensioner.
• Disconnect the power steering pump from the hoses. Use a fluid catch basin to prevent fluid spillage.
• Unbolt the power steering pump from its mounting bracket.
• Install the new power steering pump by reversing the removal steps.
  • Ensure all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer’s specifications.
• Reconnect hoses and install the drive belt.

4. Bleed the Power Steering System

• Tools Required: Helper to turn the steering wheel.
• Fill the reservoir with power steering fluid to the appropriate level.
• Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to remove air from the system.
• Check the fluid level and top off as necessary.
