Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary materials: new oil, oil filter, oil catch pan, funnel, and tools (wrench, oil filter wrench).
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and set the parking brake.
2. Drain Old Oil
  • a. Remove the oil drain plug using the wrench and allow the old oil to completely drain into the catch pan.
  • b. After draining, clean the drain plug and reinstall it, tightening to the manufacturer's specified torque (usually around 30 ft-lbs).
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • a. Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
  • b. Apply a thin layer of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
  • c. Install the new oil filter, tightening it hand-tight plus a quarter turn.
4. Add New Oil
  • a. Remove the oil filler cap on top of the engine.
  • b. Using a funnel, pour in the recommended amount of new oil (usually 4.5 quarts with filter change for the Corolla E140).
  • c. Replace the oil filler cap securely.
5. Check Oil Level
  • a. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes, allowing new oil to circulate.
  • b. Turn off the engine and wait a minute, then pull the dipstick, wipe it clean, and reinsert it to check the oil level.
  • c. Add more oil if necessary to reach the appropriate level on the dipstick.
