Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Strut spring compressor
    • Screwdriver set
    • Pliers
    • Rubber mallet
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely supported with jack stands.
    • Wear safety glasses and gloves during the procedure.
2. Remove the Wheel
  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel where the strut is to be replaced.
  2. Raise the vehicle using a jack and securely place it on jack stands.
  3. Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Remove the Strut Assembly
  1. Locate the upper strut mount bolts under the hood and remove them with a socket wrench.
  2. Detach the brake line bracket and any other components attached to the strut, such as ABS sensors, using the appropriate tools.
  3. Remove the lower strut bolts connecting the strut to the knuckle using a socket wrench. Tap gently with a rubber mallet if necessary to free the bolts.
  4. Carefully pull the strut assembly from the vehicle.
4. Disassemble the Strut
  1. Secure the strut in a strut spring compressor to safely compress the coil spring.
  2. Once compressed, remove the upper strut mount nut to release the spring from the strut.
  3. Remove the coil spring from the strut assembly and set aside the strut and mount.
5. Install New Strut
  1. Place the coil spring onto the new strut, ensuring it sits properly in the strut seat.
  2. Reattach the upper strut mount and tighten the nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  3. Carefully remove the spring compressor.
6. Reinstall Strut Assembly
  1. Position the new strut back into the vehicle.
  2. Insert and hand-tighten the lower bolts into the knuckle.
  3. Reattach the upper strut mount bolts under the hood, ensuring all components and brackets are reconnected.
  4. Torque all bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
7. Reattach the Wheel
  1. Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the vehicle off the jack stands using the jack.
  3. Fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to ensure even pressure.
