Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials required for the repair.
  • Tools Required: Screwdriver set, needle-nose pliers, graphite lubricant, multimeter.
  • Ensure the vehicle is in park (automatic) or neutral (manual) and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Address Steering Lock
  • Attempt to gently turn the steering wheel left and right while trying to turn the key.
    • If the steering lock is engaged, this may allow the key to turn.
3. Inspect and Lubricate Ignition Cylinder
  • Remove the ignition switch cover using a screwdriver.
  • Apply a small amount of graphite lubricant into the ignition cylinder.
    • Insert and remove the key several times to help distribute the lubricant.
4. Replace Ignition Lock Cylinder (if necessary)
  • If the key still does not turn, the ignition lock cylinder may need replacement.
  • Disconnect the battery before proceeding.
  • Remove the ignition switch cover and any retaining screws securing the ignition lock cylinder.
  • Disconnect any electrical connectors attached to the ignition switch.
  • Gently pull the old ignition lock cylinder out.
  • Insert the new ignition lock cylinder into place and secure it with screws.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors and replace the ignition switch cover.
