Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Drain Old Oil
  • Tools Required: Socket set, oil catch pan, funnel, rags
  • Place the oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the oil drain plug using the socket set and allow the old oil to fully drain into the pan.
  • Clean the drain plug and replace the washer if necessary.
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Remove the old oil filter using an oil filter wrench.
  • Apply a small amount of new oil on the rubber gasket of the new filter.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand until snug, then tighten an additional 3/4 turn.
4. Add New Oil
  • Reinstall the oil drain plug and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 30 ft-lbs).
  • Using a funnel, pour the appropriate type and amount of new oil into the engine (typically 5-6 quarts of 0W-20 synthetic oil for the Highlander).
  • Check the oil level on the dipstick and add more oil if necessary.
5. Final Checks
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, checking for leaks around the oil filter and drain plug.
  • Turn off the engine and check the oil level again, adding oil if necessary.
