Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Pliers
    • Drain pan
    • Funnel
    • Hose (optional for flushing)
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Allow the engine to cool before starting the procedure.
    • Wear gloves and safety glasses.
2. Drain the Old Coolant
  • Locate the radiator drain plug at the bottom of the radiator.
  • Place a drain pan under the radiator.
  • Open the drain plug and allow the old coolant to fully drain out.
  • Close the drain plug once the coolant has drained.
3. Flush the Cooling System
  • Option 1: Using garden hose
    • Remove the upper radiator hose from the radiator.
    • Insert a garden hose into the radiator opening.
    • Turn on the water to flush out the system until the water runs clear.
    • Reconnect the upper radiator hose.
  • Option 2: Using a flushing agent
    • Add a flushing agent to the cooling system following the manufacturer’s instructions.
    • Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature (about 10-15 minutes).
    • Turn off the engine and allow it to cool, then drain the system again.
4. Refill with New Coolant
  • Mix the appropriate Toyota-approved coolant with distilled water (50/50 ratio).
  • Use a funnel to pour the new coolant into the radiator until full.
  • Fill the coolant reservoir to the appropriate level.
5. Bleed the Cooling System
  • Start the engine and let it run with the heater on high to bleed any air from the system.
  • Check the coolant level in the reservoir and add more if necessary after the engine has reached operating temperature.
