Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for repair.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical components.
  • Place the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir (usually near the engine).
  • Remove the cap and inspect fluid level; add manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid if low.
  • If fluid is dark or contaminated, proceed to flush the system.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Remove the pump:
    • Disconnect the power steering hose and return line using a line wrench.
    • Remove the mounting bolts securing the pump to the engine.
    • Carefully detach the pump from the engine.
  • Install new pump:
    • Position the new power steering pump and secure it with bolts to the engine.
    • Reattach the power steering hose and return line, ensuring they are tight to prevent leaks.
4. Flush Power Steering System (if fluid contamination is present)
  • Use a power steering flush kit, following the kit instructions.
  • Remove the return line from the power steering pump and place it in a container to catch old fluid.
  • Fill the reservoir with new power steering fluid and start the engine.
  • Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to circulate the new fluid until clean fluid flows out of the return line.
  • Reconnect the return line and fill the reservoir to the recommended level.
5. Test and Finalize
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the engine and check for any leaks around the power steering pump and hoses.
  • Test drive the vehicle to ensure proper power steering function and listen for any abnormal noises.
