Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Replacement battery (CR2032), small flathead screwdriver, multimeter.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is turned off and in park before working on the key fob.
2. Replace the Key Fob Battery
  • Open the key fob using a small flathead screwdriver by gently prying apart the two halves.
  • Remove the old battery from the fob.
  • Insert the new battery with the positive side facing up.
  • Snap the two halves of the key fob back together securely.
3. Test Key Fob Functionality
  • Use a multimeter set to continuity mode.
  • Press each button on the key fob while probing the connection points on the circuit board.
  • If continuity is not present when a button is pressed, the key fob may need to be replaced.
4. Check Vehicle Battery Voltage
  • Open the hood and connect a multimeter to the vehicle's battery terminals (red to positive, black to negative).
  • Ensure the battery voltage reads 12.4V or higher. If it is below this, charge or replace the vehicle battery.
5. Reprogram the Key Fob
  • Sit inside the vehicle and close all doors.
  • Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position (do not start the engine).
  • Press the "Lock" button on the key fob and turn the key to "OFF" and then back to "ON" again within 5 seconds.
  • Repeat this process a few times until the locks cycle, indicating successful reprogramming.
