Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for replacement.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels for safety.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Using a jack, lift the front or rear of the Highlander depending on which struts are being inspected.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure stability.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts with a lug wrench and remove them.
  • Take off the wheel to expose the strut assembly.
4. Inspect and Remove Struts
  • Check for any visible damage to the struts and surrounding components.
  • If replacement is needed, locate the upper strut mount under the hood or inside the vehicle, remove the fasteners using a socket set.
  • Remove the lower strut bolts at the knuckle using the appropriate socket size.
  • Carefully pull the strut out of its mount.
5. Install New Struts
  • Position the new strut into the strut mount and align it with the lower knuckle.
  • Insert and tighten the lower strut bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  • Reattach the upper strut mount, ensuring all fasteners are securely tightened.
6. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and remove the jack.
  • Finally, torque the lug nuts to the specified value.
