Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, pliers, screwdriver, coolant pressure tester, hose clamps
  • Ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the battery before starting work on the vehicle.
2. Drain Coolant
  • Place a drain pan under the radiator.
  • Open the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator and allow coolant to fully drain.
  • Close the drain valve after the coolant has been drained.
3. Remove Heater Core Hoses
  • Locate the heater core hoses in the engine bay (usually near the firewall).
  • Use pliers to loosen the hose clamps and carefully remove the hoses from the heater core fittings.
4. Flush Heater Core
  • Connect a garden hose to one of the heater core inlet pipes.
  • Turn on the water to flush the heater core. Start with a low flow and gradually increase it, allowing water to flow through until it runs clear.
  • Reverse the hose connection after flushing to ensure any blockage is dislodged.
5. Reassemble and Refill Coolant
  • Reconnect the heater core hoses and securely tighten the clamps.
  • Refill the cooling system with the appropriate type and mixture of coolant.
  • Reconnect the battery.
