Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, pry bar.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety if working on electrical components.
2. Inspect and Replace CV Joints
  1. Lift the Vehicle: Use the jack to lift the front of the Highlander and secure it on jack stands.
  2. Remove the Wheel: Use the socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheel to access the CV joint.
  3. Examine CV Joint: Check the CV joint for any cracks or tears in the boot. If damaged, proceed to replace.
  4. Remove the CV Axle:
    • Remove any retaining clips or bolts securing the axle to the hub and transmission.
    • Gently tap the axle out of the hub using a pry bar if necessary.
  5. Install New CV Joint:
    • Slide the new CV joint into the transmission and secure with the retaining clip.
    • Reattach to the hub and torque to manufacturer specifications.
3. Inspect and Tighten Suspension Components
  1. Check Suspension Bolts:
    • Inspect all bolts and nuts on the control arms, sway bar links, and struts.
    • Tighten any loose fasteners to the specified torque values.
  2. Replace Worn Components: If any suspension parts are worn, replace them as needed.
4. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  1. Reattach the Wheel: Place the wheel back onto the hub, hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the Vehicle: Carefully remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle.
  3. Torque Wheel Lug Nuts: Once the vehicle is on the ground, torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specification.
