Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack stands, socket set, grease gun, and safety glasses.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely supported on jack stands before working underneath it.
2. Remove Driveshaft
  1. Disconnect Battery: Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent accidental electrical shorts.
  2. Mark Driveshaft Position: Use a marker to indicate the orientation of the driveshaft to ensure it is reinstalled in the same position.
  3. Unbolt U-joint Caps: Using a socket set, remove the bolts securing the U-joint caps to the driveshaft and the differential.
  4. Remove Driveshaft: Carefully slide the driveshaft off the U-joint and set it aside.
3. Inspect U-joint
  1. Check for Wear: Inspect the U-joint for any visible signs of wear, including cracks, rust, or excessive play.
  2. Test Movement: Manually rotate and move the U-joint to check for any binding or resistance.
4. Replace U-joint (if necessary)
  1. Remove Old U-joint: Use a U-joint press or hammer to carefully drive out the U-joint from the yoke.
  2. Install New U-joint: Align the new U-joint in the yoke and use the press or hammer to securely install it.
  3. Reattach Driveshaft: Place the driveshaft back into position and bolt it to the differential, ensuring it aligns with the marks made earlier.
5. Lubricate and Reconnect
  1. Lubricate U-joint: If applicable, use a grease gun to apply grease to the new U-joint through the grease fittings.
  2. Reconnect Battery: Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
