Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: Small flathead screwdriver, new CR2032 battery, and a key fob reprogramming guide for your specific RAV4 model year.
  • Ensure you are in a well-lit area to accurately work on the fob.
2. Replace the Battery
  1. Use the small flathead screwdriver to gently pry open the key fob casing.
  2. Carefully remove the old CR2032 battery, noting the orientation (positive side facing up).
  3. Insert the new CR2032 battery in the same orientation.
  4. Snap the key fob casing back together securely.
3. Test the Key Fob
  1. Press the buttons on the key fob to check for responsiveness.
  2. Look for illumination of the red LED light when buttons are pressed.
  3. If the fob is functional, test it on the vehicle to unlock doors and start the engine.
4. Reprogram the Key Fob (if necessary)
  1. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the 'On' position without starting the engine.
  2. Turn it back to 'Off' and remove the key.
  3. Press and hold the "Unlock" button on the key fob while inserting the key back into the ignition.
  4. Turn the ignition to 'On' and then back to 'Off' two times, while still holding the "Unlock" button.
  5. Release the "Unlock" button. The car should respond with locks cycling to confirm programming.
