Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface with the engine off.
2. Clean the Throttle Body
  • Remove the intake duct connected to the throttle body.
  • Use throttle body cleaner and a soft cloth to clean the throttle plate and surrounding areas.
  • Reassemble the intake duct securely.
3. Replace the Fuel Filter
  • Locate the fuel filter; it is usually near the fuel tank or along the fuel line.
  • Relieve fuel pressure by removing the fuel pump relay and starting the engine until it stalls.
  • Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter using a line removal tool.
  • Install the new fuel filter, ensuring the flow direction is correct, and reconnect the fuel lines.
4. Replace Spark Plugs
  • Remove the ignition coil(s) by unbolting them and disconnecting the electrical connector.
  • Use a spark plug socket to remove the old spark plugs.
  • Install new spark plugs with the correct gap specification (typically around 0.044 inches for most RAV4 models).
  • Reinstall the ignition coil(s) and reconnect the electrical connectors.
5. Inspect and Clean MAF Sensor
  • Disconnect the MAF sensor connector.
  • Remove the MAF sensor from the intake manifold.
  • Use MAF sensor cleaner to spray the sensor element carefully and allow it to dry.
  • Reinstall the MAF sensor and reconnect the electrical connector.
