Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, wheel chocks, socket set, tie rod end puller, torque wrench, grease.
  • Safely park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Use wheel chocks to block the rear wheels.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle.
  • Place jack stands under the vehicle for safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using a socket set, remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheel to access the tie rod ends.
4. Remove the Tie Rod End
  • Tools Required: Tie rod end puller.
  • Using the tie rod end puller, separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  • If the tie rod end is stubborn, you may need to lightly tap it with a hammer to loosen it.
5. Install New Tie Rod End
  • Clean the threads of the steering rack and apply grease to the new tie rod end.
  • Thread the new tie rod end onto the steering rack, ensuring it is tightened securely.
  • Use a torque wrench to tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque (usually around 40-60 ft-lbs, check your service manual for exact specs).
6. Reassemble
  • Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle using the original nut.
  • Tighten the nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  • Reinstall the wheel and securely fasten the lug nuts.
7. Lower the Vehicle
  • Carefully remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
8. Alignment Check
  • After replacing the tie rod ends, have the vehicle's alignment checked and adjusted by a professional if necessary.
