Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials: OBD-II scanner, socket set, fuel injector cleaning kit, fuel line disconnect tool, safety goggles, gloves, and shop towels.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked in a well-ventilated area and the engine is cool. Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the fuel system.
2. Remove Fuel Injector Rail
  1. Relieve Fuel Pressure: Locate the fuel pump relay in the fuse box and remove it. Start the engine to let it run until it stalls, indicating pressure has been relieved.
  2. Disconnect Fuel Lines: Use a fuel line disconnect tool to carefully detach the fuel lines from the injector rail. Have shop towels ready to catch any residual fuel.
  3. Unplug Electrical Connectors: Disconnect the electrical connectors from each fuel injector by pressing the release tab and pulling them off.
  4. Remove the Injector Rail: Unscrew the bolts securing the fuel injector rail to the intake manifold and gently pull the rail away from the manifold, taking care not to damage the injectors.
3. Clean the Fuel Injectors
  1. Set Up Cleaning Kit: Connect the fuel injector cleaning kit to the fuel rail according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Fill Cleaning Solution: Use a high-quality fuel injector cleaning solution. Fill the canister of the cleaning kit with the solution.
  3. Start Cleaning Process: Follow the instructions of the cleaning kit to activate the cleaning process. This usually involves cycling the solution through the injectors while the engine is running or using a pressurized canister.
  4. Monitor the Process: Keep an eye on the flow and ensure the cleaning solution is being drawn through each injector. This may take 10-15 minutes.
4. Reassemble Components
  1. Reinstall Fuel Injector Rail: Once cleaning is complete, carefully reinstall the fuel injector rail back onto the intake manifold.
  2. Reconnect Electrical Connectors: Plug the electrical connectors back onto each injector.
  3. Reconnect Fuel Lines: Reattach the fuel lines securely to the injector rail.
  4. Reinstall Fuel Pump Relay: Replace the fuel pump relay in the fuse box.
5. Final Checks
  1. Reconnect Battery: Reconnect the battery terminals securely.
  2. Start Engine: Turn the ignition to the "ON" position without starting to allow the fuel pump to prime, then start the engine and check for leaks around the injector rail and lines.
