Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Inspect Fuel System
  • Tools Required: Fuel pressure gauge, fuel line disconnect tool.
  • Remove the fuel pump fuse and start the engine to relieve fuel system pressure.
  • Connect the fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start) to check the fuel pressure. It should match the specifications in the service manual.
  • If pressure is low, replace the fuel pump.
3. Inspect Ignition System
  • Tools Required: Socket set, multimeter.
  • Remove the ignition coil(s) by disconnecting electrical connectors and unscrewing mounting bolts.
  • Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the ignition coil(s) according to manufacturer specifications. Replace any faulty coils.
  • Remove and inspect spark plugs for wear or fouling. Replace if necessary.
4. Check Electrical Components
  • Tools Required: Multimeter.
  • Test the battery voltage; it should be around 12.6 volts with the engine off and 13.7-14.7 volts with the engine running.
  • Inspect the alternator by checking the voltage output with the engine running. If it is below specification, replace the alternator.
  • Examine all fuses and relays related to the ignition and fuel systems.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reconnect all components and ensure all fasteners are tightened to specifications.
  • Reinstall the fuel pump fuse and reconnect the battery.
  • Start the engine and check for any abnormal sounds or warning lights.
