Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the vehicle's battery to prevent any electrical shorts.
  • Allow the engine to cool down to a safe temperature.
2. Remove Throttle Body
  1. Remove Engine Cover (if applicable)
    • Unscrew any bolts or clips holding the engine cover in place and carefully lift it off.
  2. Disconnect Air Intake Duct
    • Loosen the clamps securing the air intake duct to the throttle body using a screwdriver or socket.
    • Gently pull the duct off to expose the throttle body.
  3. Disconnect Electrical Connectors
    • Carefully unplug the electrical connector(s) from the throttle body by pressing the release tab and pulling straight out.
  4. Remove Throttle Body Bolts
    • Using a socket wrench, remove the bolts securing the throttle body to the intake manifold. Keep track of the bolts for reinstallation.
  5. Carefully Remove Throttle Body
    • Gently pull the throttle body away from the intake manifold, ensuring no components are damaged.
3. Clean Throttle Body
  1. Inspect for Carbon Buildup
    • Examine the throttle plate and bore for any carbon deposits.
  2. Clean with Throttle Body Cleaner
    • Spray throttle body cleaner onto a clean cloth or directly onto the throttle body.
    • Use a soft brush or cloth to scrub away any deposits, ensuring not to damage the throttle plate or sensor.
  3. Dry and Inspect
    • Wipe down all surfaces, allowing the cleaner to evaporate completely before reinstallation.
4. Reinstall Throttle Body
  1. Align and Secure Throttle Body
    • Position the throttle body back onto the intake manifold and align the bolt holes.
    • Reinstall the bolts and torque them to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 89 in-lbs for Toyota).
  2. Reconnect Electrical Connectors
    • Plug the electrical connector(s) back into the throttle body until they click into place.
  3. Reattach Air Intake Duct
    • Place the air intake duct back onto the throttle body and tighten the clamps securely.
  4. Replace Engine Cover
    • If removed, place the engine cover back and secure it with the necessary bolts or clips.
5. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is tight.
