Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, socket set, torque wrench, transmission fluid pump, multimeter, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, and the engine is turned off.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Check Transmission Fluid
  • Remove the transmission dipstick and check the fluid level.
  • If low, add the appropriate transmission fluid (check owner’s manual for specifications).
  • If the fluid is discolored or has a burnt smell, proceed to change the fluid.
3. Change Transmission Fluid
  • Tools Required: Transmission fluid pump, fluid catch pan.
  • Place a fluid catch pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts and carefully lower the pan to drain the old fluid.
  • Replace the transmission filter if applicable (some models have this feature).
  • Install a new gasket and reattach the pan, torquing the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Use a transmission fluid pump to refill the transmission with new fluid through the dipstick tube.
4. Inspect and Test Torque Converter Lock-Up Solenoid
  • Locate the torque converter lock-up solenoid, usually found on the transmission.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector and test using a multimeter to check for continuity.
  • If faulty, replace the solenoid with a new one.
5. Reassemble and Reconnect
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
  • Check for leaks around the transmission pan and solenoid.
