my Toyota RAV4 XA50 (2019-2024) rear brakes are squeaking constantly

Solution

1. Preparation

• Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
• Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
• Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the braking system.

2. Remove the Rear Wheel

• Use a jack to raise the rear of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
• Remove the wheel lug nuts using a socket set, and take off the rear wheel.

3. Remove Brake Caliper

• Locate the caliper mounting bolts and remove them with the appropriate socket.
• Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor, supporting it with a bungee cord or rope to avoid stress on the brake line.

4. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads

• Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
• Inspect the brake pads for wear; replace if the friction material is less than 3mm thick.
• Apply brake lubricant to the backs of the new brake pads and install them into the caliper bracket.

5. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors (if necessary)

• Check the rotor surface for scoring or warping; replace if damaged.
• If replacing, remove the old rotor by unscrewing any retaining screws and slide it off the hub.
• Install the new rotor and secure it with retaining screws.
