Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off and cooled down.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
2. Clean the Area
  • Use engine degreaser and a brush to clean the front of the engine and undercarriage.
  • Rinse off the degreaser with water and let the area dry completely.
3. Inspect and Replace Gaskets/Seals

3.1. Oil Filter Replacement

  • Tools Required: Oil filter wrench, oil catch pan, new oil filter, and engine oil.
  • Remove the old oil filter using an oil filter wrench.
  • Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand until snug, then tighten slightly more (do not overtighten).

3.2. Replace Front Crankshaft Seal

  • Tools Required: Socket set, seal puller, and new crankshaft seal.
  • Remove the serpentine belt and crankshaft pulley using the appropriate socket.
  • Use a seal puller to carefully remove the old crankshaft seal.
  • Clean the sealing surface before installing the new seal.
  • Install the new crankshaft seal using a seal installer tool or a similar object to ensure it sits flush.

3.3. Replace Valve Cover Gasket

  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, new valve cover gasket, and RTV sealant (if required).
  • Remove the bolts securing the valve cover using a socket set.
  • Lift off the valve cover and remove the old gasket.
  • Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly and apply RTV sealant if specified by the manufacturer.
  • Place the new gasket in position and re-install the valve cover, tightening bolts to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
4. Refill Engine Oil
  • Check the oil level again and top off with the appropriate engine oil if necessary.
  • Reconnect the battery.
