Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent electrical issues.
2. Check Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level.
  • If the fluid is low, top it up with the manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid.
  • Inspect the fluid for contamination (dark color, debris). If contaminated, proceed to the next step.
3. Replace Power Steering Fluid
  • Place a drain pan beneath the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Disconnect the return hose from the power steering pump and allow the old fluid to drain completely.
  • Reconnect the return hose and refill the reservoir with fresh power steering fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to remove any air from the system.
4. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • If fluid levels were adequate and the issue persists, remove the power steering pump:
    • Disconnect any electrical connections.
    • Remove the drive belt from the pump.
    • Unbolt the pump from its mounting brackets and remove it.
  • Install the new pump:
    • Attach the new power steering pump to the mounting brackets and bolt it in place.
    • Reconnect the drive belt and electrical connections.
  • Refill the power steering fluid and bleed the system as described above.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reconnect the battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and test the steering wheel for improvements.
