Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to prevent electrical shorts.

Tools Required:

  • Socket set
  • Screwdriver set (Phillips and flathead)
  • Torque wrench
  • Multimeter
  • Trim removal tools
2. Remove Steering Column Covers
  • Using a screwdriver, remove the screws securing the upper and lower steering column covers.
  • Carefully detach the covers to expose the ignition switch assembly.
3. Access the Ignition Switch
  • Locate the ignition switch mounted on the steering column.
  • Disconnect the wiring harness from the ignition switch by pressing the release tab and pulling it out.
4. Remove the Ignition Switch
  • Remove the retaining screws that hold the ignition switch in place using a socket set.
  • Carefully pull the ignition switch out from its mounting position.
5. Install the New Ignition Switch
  • Align the new ignition switch in the mounting position and secure it with the retaining screws; tighten to manufacturer's torque specifications (typically around 7 Nm).
  • Reconnect the wiring harness to the new ignition switch; ensure it clicks into place.
6. Reassemble Steering Column Covers
  • Reattach the upper and lower steering column covers, securing them with the screws removed earlier.
7. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the vehicle battery.
  • Test the new ignition switch by inserting the key and attempting to start the vehicle.
