Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and ensure the engine is off.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle depending on which brake pads you are replacing.
  • Secure the vehicle on jack stands for safety.
3. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen lug nuts with the lug wrench before lifting.
  • Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the brake assembly.
4. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Locate the brake caliper and remove the bolts using a socket set.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor. Support it with a bungee cord or hanger to prevent stress on the brake line.
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket. Note the position of shims if present.
5. Inspect and Clean
  • Inspect the brake rotor for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.
  • Clean the caliper and bracket with brake cleaner to remove dust and debris.
6. Install New Brake Pads
  • Place the new brake pads into the caliper bracket in the same position as the old ones.
  • Apply anti-squeal lubricant on the back of the pads if recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Reinstall the caliper over the new pads and secure with bolts. Torque to manufacturer specifications.
7. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reattach the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to the specified value.
  • Repeat for other wheels if necessary.
