Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, jack and jack stands, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, screwdriver set, pry bar, and safety goggles.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheels to gain access to the struts.
2. Remove Strut Assembly
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Disconnect the sway bar link from the strut using a socket.
    2. Remove the lower strut mounting bolts with a socket.
    3. Disconnect the brake line bracket from the strut.
    4. Remove the upper strut mounting nuts from the strut tower using a socket.
    5. Carefully pull the strut assembly out of the wheel well.
3. Disassemble Strut
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Place the strut assembly in a strut spring compressor to safely compress the spring.
    2. Remove the top nut from the strut using a socket, then carefully release the spring tension.
    3. Remove the spring and any associated components (bump stop, dust boot) from the strut.
4. Replace Strut Cartridge
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Remove the old strut cartridge from the strut housing.
    2. Clean the strut housing and inspect for damage.
    3. Install the new strut cartridge into the housing.
    4. Reinstall the bump stop and dust boot.
5. Reassemble Strut and Install
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Position the spring onto the new strut cartridge and compress it using the strut spring compressor.
    2. Secure the top nut onto the strut while ensuring the spring is seated correctly.
    3. Reinstall the strut assembly back into the vehicle in reverse order of removal.
    4. Ensure all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer's specifications.
6. Final Checks
  • Reinstall the wheels and lower the vehicle.
  • Perform a visual inspection of the strut installation and check for any leaks.
