Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, pry bar, CV joint grease.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and secure it with jack stands.
  • Safety Warning: Always disconnect the battery before working on any electrical components.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel by fully loosening the lug nuts and taking the wheel off.
3. Remove Axle Nut
  • Use a socket and breaker bar to remove the axle nut.
  • If the nut is stuck, apply penetrating oil and let it sit for a few minutes before attempting to remove it again.
4. Disconnect Lower Control Arm or Strut
  • If needed, remove the bolts securing the lower control arm or strut to gain access to the CV joint.
  • Use a pry bar to gently separate the control arm from the hub assembly if necessary.
5. Remove CV Joint
  • Carefully pull the CV joint out of the wheel hub.
  • If the joint is stuck, use a soft hammer to tap it out gently.
6. Inspect and Replace
  • Inspect the CV joint for wear, such as cracks or excessive play.
  • If damaged, replace the CV joint with a new one.
  • Apply CV joint grease as specified by the manufacturer before reinstalling.
7. Reassembly
  • Reinsert the CV joint into the hub.
  • Reattach the axle nut and torque it to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Reconnect the lower control arm or strut and tighten the bolts securely.
  • Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern.
