Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the engine is cool and the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical shorts.

Tools Required:

  • Socket set (including 10mm and 13mm sockets)
  • Ratchet
  • Serpentine belt tool or breaker bar
  • Torque wrench
2. Remove the Engine Cover (if applicable)
  • Remove any plastic engine covers that may obstruct access to the serpentine belt.
    • Use a socket or ratchet to remove the bolts securing the cover.
    • Carefully lift off the cover and set it aside.
3. Release Tension on the Belt
  • Locate the serpentine belt tensioner.
  • Use a serpentine belt tool or a breaker bar to rotate the tensioner counterclockwise.
  • While holding the tensioner, slide the serpentine belt off one of the pulleys (preferably the least obstructed one).
  • Slowly release the tensioner back to its resting position.
4. Remove the Old Serpentine Belt
  • Carefully slide the belt off the remaining pulleys.
  • Take note of the belt routing for installation of the new belt (you may want to take a picture for reference).
5. Install the New Serpentine Belt
  • Refer to the serpentine belt routing diagram, which is usually located on a sticker in the engine compartment.
  • Begin threading the new belt onto the pulleys, starting at the lowest pulley and working your way up according to the routing diagram.
  • Leave the tensioner pulley for last.
6. Reapply Tension
  • Once the belt is properly routed, use the serpentine belt tool to rotate the tensioner counterclockwise again.
  • Slip the new belt onto the tensioner pulley while holding the tensioner.
  • Release the tensioner slowly to apply tension to the new belt.
7. Reinstall Engine Cover
  • If applicable, place the engine cover back onto the engine and secure it with previously removed bolts.

Safety Warnings:

  • Always disconnect the battery before performing any work on the electrical components.
  • Ensure that tools do not get caught in moving parts when working on the engine.
