Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Wear safety gloves and goggles.
2. Drain the Old Steering Fluid
  • Tools Required: Fluid extractor or turkey baster, cleaning cloths.
  • Use a fluid extractor to remove as much old power steering fluid from the reservoir as possible.
  • Wipe the inside of the reservoir with a clean cloth to remove any debris.
3. Flush the Power Steering System
  • Tools Required: New power steering fluid, funnel, container for old fluid.
  • Connect a hose to the return line of the power steering pump and place the other end in a container.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to circulate the remaining fluid out into the container.
  • Stop the engine periodically to refill the reservoir with new fluid until it runs clear.
4. Refill the Reservoir
  • Parts Required: OEM-approved power steering fluid.
  • Remove the funnel and reattach the return line securely.
  • Pour new power steering fluid into the reservoir up to the recommended level.
5. Bleed the System
  • Tools Required: Assistant to help with the steering.
  • Start the engine and have an assistant turn the steering wheel slowly from lock to lock several times to purge any air bubbles.
  • Check the fluid level again and top off as necessary.
6. Inspect and Test
  • Inspect all connections for leaks.
  • Test drive the vehicle to ensure proper steering response and listen for any unusual noises.
