Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Multimeter, battery load tester, socket set, wire brush, protective gloves and eyewear.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is turned off.
2. Clean Battery Terminals
  • Remove the negative (-) terminal first, followed by the positive (+) terminal.
  • Use a wire brush to clean any corrosion from the battery terminals and posts.
  • Reconnect the positive (+) terminal first, then the negative (-) terminal.
3. Replace Battery (if necessary)
  • If the battery fails the load test or is significantly below 12.4 volts:
    1. Disconnect both battery terminals.
    2. Remove any battery hold-down brackets using a socket set.
    3. Carefully lift the old battery out of the battery tray.
    4. Place the new battery in the tray and secure it with the hold-down bracket.
    5. Reconnect the positive (+) terminal first, then the negative (-) terminal.
4. Repair Alternator (if necessary)
  • If alternator output is low:
    1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
    2. Remove the serpentine belt from the alternator.
    3. Disconnect electrical connectors from the alternator.
    4. Unbolt the alternator from its mounting bracket.
    5. Replace with a new alternator and reverse the steps to install.
5. Address Parasitic Draw (if detected)
  • Identify the circuit causing the draw by removing fuses one by one while monitoring the multimeter.
  • Repair or replace any faulty components associated with the circuit.
