Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid any electrical issues.
2. Drain Differential Fluid
  • Locate the differential drain plug using a socket set.
  • Place a drain pan beneath the differential.
  • Remove the drain plug and allow the fluid to completely drain.
  • Inspect the fluid for metal shavings or debris, indicating wear.
3. Replace Differential Fluid
  • Reinstall the drain plug and torque it to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically 30 Nm).
  • Remove the fill plug and add new differential fluid (check the owner’s manual for specifications).
  • Use a fluid pump for easier filling until fluid begins to seep from the fill hole.
  • Reinstall the fill plug and torque to the manufacturer's specifications.
4. Inspect and Replace Damaged Components
  • If noise persists, check the CV joints and axles for any visible damage or excessive play.
  • Replace any worn or damaged CV joints or axles as necessary:
    • Remove the wheel for access.
    • Disconnect the CV joint from the hub assembly using a socket set.
    • Slide the axle out of the differential and replace it with a new one.
    • Reinstall and torque the wheel and CV joint bolts as per specifications.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall any removed components and ensure all bolts are tightened to specifications.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Test drive the vehicle to ensure the noise has been resolved.
