Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and set the parking brake. Wear safety goggles and gloves.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  1. Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle depending on the location of the strut.
  2. Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure stability.
3. Remove the Wheel
  1. Remove the lug nuts using a socket set.
  2. Take off the wheel to gain access to the strut assembly.
4. Remove the Strut
  1. Remove the bolts securing the strut to the steering knuckle.
  2. Disconnect the sway bar link from the strut if applicable.
  3. Remove the upper strut mounting nuts from the strut tower in the engine bay using a socket set.
  4. Carefully pull the strut out of the vehicle. Use a strut spring compressor to safely release the tension on the coil spring if necessary.
5. Replace or Repair Strut
  1. If replacing the strut, compare the new strut with the old one to ensure compatibility.
  2. Install the new strut by reversing the removal steps, ensuring all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer's specifications.
  3. If reusing the strut, inspect the seals and replace them if necessary, then reassemble the strut components.
6. Reinstall the Wheel and Lower the Vehicle
  1. Put the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the vehicle to the ground using the jack.
  3. Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
7. Final Checks
  1. Recheck the strut bolts for tightness.
  2. Inspect for any leaks around the new strut before taking the vehicle for a test drive.
