Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shock.
  • Allow the engine to cool before starting work.
2. Replace Ignition Coil (if faulty)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, dielectric grease.
  • Remove the engine cover if applicable.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil on cylinder 3.
  • Remove the bolt holding the ignition coil in place using the socket set.
  • Gently pull out the ignition coil from the spark plug well.
  • Apply dielectric grease to the new ignition coil's connector.
  • Install the new ignition coil, securing it with the bolt and reconnecting the electrical connector.
3. Replace Spark Plug (if faulty)
  • Tools Required: Spark plug socket, torque wrench, anti-seize compound.
  • Remove the ignition coil (if not already done).
  • Unscrew the spark plug from cylinder 3 using the spark plug socket.
  • Inspect the old spark plug for wear or carbon buildup.
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plug.
  • Install the new spark plug by hand and then tighten to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 22 ft-lbs for VW).
  • Reinstall the ignition coil.
4. Check Fuel Injector (if necessary)
  • If the ignition coil and spark plug are functioning correctly, check the fuel injector.
  • Disconnect the fuel injector connector and use a noid light to verify electrical signal.
  • If no signal is present, inspect wiring and connectors for faults.
  • If the injector is faulty, remove it and replace it.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall any components removed during the process.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Clear the error codes using an OBD-II scanner.
  • Start the engine and monitor for any check engine light return.
