Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Inspect and Replace CV Joints
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack and jack stands, pry bar
  • Steps:
    1. Lift the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
    2. Remove the front wheel on the side where the noise is occurring.
    3. Inspect the CV joint boots for tears or grease leakage.
    4. If damaged, remove the CV joint by unbolting it from the transmission and the wheel hub.
    5. Install the new CV joint by reversing the removal steps. Ensure all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer’s specifications.
3. Inspect and Replace Wheel Bearings
  • Tools Required: Bearing puller, socket set, torque wrench
  • Steps:
    1. After removing the wheel, inspect the wheel bearing for play by wiggling the hub.
    2. If loose, remove the brake caliper and rotor.
    3. Use the bearing puller to remove the old bearing.
    4. Press in the new wheel bearing and reassemble all components, torquing to specifications.
4. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Tools Required: Funnel
  • Steps:
    1. Locate the power steering reservoir.
    2. Check fluid levels; if low, add the manufacturer-recommended fluid until the proper level is reached.
    3. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to bleed any air.
