Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely parked.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for safety.
2. Check and Replace Power Steering Fluid
  • Tools Required: Funnel, clean rags.
  • Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap.
  • Check the fluid level; if low, top off with manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid.
  • If the fluid is dirty or contaminated, proceed with a fluid flush.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, power steering fluid.
  • Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump by loosening the tensioner.
  • Disconnect the power steering hoses from the pump and cap the hoses to prevent fluid spillage.
  • Remove the mounting bolts of the power steering pump and take it out.
  • Install the new power steering pump and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Reconnect the power steering hoses and the drive belt.
4. Inspect and Replace Steering Rack (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, steering rack assembly.
  • Safely lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Disconnect the tie rods from the steering rack.
  • Remove the power steering hoses from the steering rack.
  • Unbolt the steering rack from its mounts and carefully remove it.
  • Install the new steering rack, ensuring all bolts are torqued to specifications.
  • Reattach the tie rods and power steering hoses.
5. Refill and Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with new fluid to the recommended level.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to bleed air from the system.
  • Check fluid level again and top off as needed.
