Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely supported on jack stands before working underneath.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  • Use the jack to lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Remove Strut Assembly
  • Disconnect the sway bar link if applicable using a socket set.
  • Unbolt the strut from the steering knuckle; this may require a breaker bar for stubborn bolts.
  • Remove the strut from the top mount in the engine compartment by removing the nuts securing it to the strut tower.
  • Carefully extract the strut assembly from the vehicle, taking care to manage any attached components.
4. Replace Strut
  • Compress the coil spring using a strut spring compressor following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Remove the old strut from the spring seat.
  • Install the new strut into the coil spring and ensure it's seated properly.
  • Reassemble the strut mount with the top mount nuts, ensuring they are torqued to the manufacturer's specifications.
5. Reinstall Strut Assembly
  • Position the strut assembly back into the vehicle, securing it at the top mount first.
  • Reattach the strut to the steering knuckle and secure the bolts.
  • Reconnect the sway bar link.
6. Reinstall Wheel and Lower Vehicle
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and fully tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to the specified torque.
