Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts: Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Lug wrench
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Brake cleaner
    • C-clamp or brake caliper tool
    • Safety goggles
    • Gloves
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen lug nuts with a lug wrench while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Raise the vehicle using the jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Inspect: Check the thickness of the brake pads. If less than 3mm, they need to be replaced.
  • Remove old brake pads: Unbolt the caliper using the socket set and slide the caliper off the rotor.
  • Replace: Remove the old pads and install new pads. Ensure they are seated properly in the caliper bracket.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors
  • Check: If rotors are scored or warped, replace them. Measure the thickness of the rotors; if they are below the manufacturer's minimum thickness, they should be replaced.
  • Remove: Unbolt the rotor from the hub if necessary. Clean the hub surface with brake cleaner.
  • Install: Place the new rotor on the hub and secure it.
5. Reassemble Brake Components
  • Reinstall Caliper: Carefully compress the caliper piston using the C-clamp or brake caliper tool to allow space for the new pads.
  • Bolt the caliper back to the bracket and ensure it is tightened to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
6. Reattach Wheel and Lower Vehicle
  • Place the wheel back on the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle to the ground and use the torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
7. Test the Brakes
  • Before driving, pump the brake pedal a few times to ensure proper contact between the pads and rotors.
  • Check for any unusual noises or issues during the first few stops.
