Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely lifted using jack stands.
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves.
2. Locate the Leak
  • Inspect the Brake Lines:

    • Use a flashlight to check for any visible damage or wet spots on the brake lines.
    • If a leak is found, note the location for repair.
  • Check the Brake Calipers:

    • Remove the wheel to access the brake caliper.
    • Inspect the caliper seals for any signs of fluid leakage.
3. Repair or Replace Components
  • If Brake Lines are Leaking:

    • Use a line cutter to remove the damaged section of the brake line.
    • Install a new brake line and ensure all connections are tight.
    • Use a flare tool if necessary for proper fitting.
  • If Calipers are Leaking:

    • Remove the caliper from the bracket.
    • Replace the brake caliper if the seals cannot be replaced or if the caliper is damaged.
  • If Master Cylinder is Leaking:

    • Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder.
    • Remove the master cylinder from the brake booster.
    • Install the new master cylinder and reconnect the brake lines.
4. Bleed the Brakes
  • Fill the brake fluid reservoir with the appropriate brake fluid type (DOT 4 for most Volvos).
  • Start bleeding the brakes from the farthest wheel from the master cylinder, usually the right rear, then left rear, right front, and finally left front.
  • Ensure there are no air bubbles in the brake lines.
